Lasell Vespers.

—Henry C. Graves.

SONGS of evening, vespers chiming,

Blend in harmonies of peace;

Upward towards the skies are climbing,

Melodies, when earth tones cease.

Sun in arching course declining,

Star of coming night appear;

Heaven to thee our souls resigning,

With thy Sun and Star be near.

Islands of the Blessed shining,

Shed sweet rays across the way;

Where fond hopes round toil are twining,

Gladdening each retreating day.

Sun in arching course declining,

Star of coming night appear;

Heaven to thee our souls resigning,

With thy Sun and Star be near.

Notes discordant flee with day dreams.

Matin peals reëcho night:

Greeting swift return of ray-beams,

Vespers wait the eastern light.

Sun in arching course declining,

Star of coming night appear;

Heaven to thee our souls resigning,

With thy Sun and Star be near.
